Baykeeper Boats Fund Campaign

Posted on Oct 20, 2012

Thank you for helping to float our boat!

Friends of Casco Bay launched the Baykeeper Boats Fund campaign to replace our aging boat and provide a maintenance fund for our small fleet. As you can imagine, a boat is essential to our work. We use our Baykeeper vessel to monitor water quality, investigate pollution, and educate our community about being good stewards of the Bay.

Earlier this summer, we announced the public phase of the campaign at DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant on the Portland waterfront. Generous members and donors around the Bay—and beyond—have brought us close to our goal of $485,000. Just as exciting, since the DiMillo’s event, more than 150 new friends of the Bay have become first-time donors to our organization.

Now that we have 84% of the designated funding in hand, our boat captain Peter Milholland, Casco Baykeeper Joe Payne, and several seaworthy friends, have been searching for the perfect boat. Joe says, “We have a need for speed and a boat that handles well. I am confident that by spring we will launch a Maine-built boat that will work for us for the next 15 years.”

You can help us reach our goal by making a donation. Visit cascobay.org/boats-fund for more information.
