Anyone who wants to become a Water Quality Monitor may join our team on Saturday, April 9th, to be trained in EPA-approved protocols.
Peter Milholland, Citizen Stewards Coordinator for Friends of Casco Bay, oversees the recruitment, training, and support of all our volunteers. He says, “You don’t have to be a professional scientist to become a Citizen Scientist. Our water quality monitors are vital to our understanding of the health of Casco Bay. Their dedication is the reason our data is comprehensive and used by so many researchers and regulators.”
Our highly credible data has helped win greater protection for the waters of Casco Bay and coastal Maine by identifying areas impacted by pollution and by providing the documentation for the State to upgrade the water quality classification for sections of the Bay.
